Cake Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Add Boiling Water
Carefully stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.

Bake the Cake
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool the Cakes
Once baked, remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Make the Frosting
In a mixing bowl, beat the unsalted butter until smooth. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk, until the desired consistency is reached. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Frost the Cake
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread frosting on the top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.

Cut the chocolate cake into slices and serve each slice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
