Seasoning Ingredients

Method

Preparation of Sushi Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse Sushi Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.

  2. 2

    Cook Sushi Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed sushi rice and 1 cup of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat.

  3. 3

    Let Rice Sit

Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, remove from heat and let it sit covered for another 10 minutes.

  4. 4

    Season Sushi Rice

In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, salt, and sugar until dissolved. Pour this mixture over the cooked rice and gently fold it in to season the rice. Allow the rice to cool to room temperature.

Assembly of Philly Roll

  1. 5

    Prepare Sushi Mat

Place a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface and lay a sheet of nori on top, shiny side down.

  2. 6

    Spread Sushi Rice

Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, then take a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border at the top.

  3. 7

    Add Fillings

Layer smoked salmon, thinly sliced avocado, and cream cheese along the bottom edge of the rice-covered nori.

  4. 8

    Roll the Sushi

Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the nori away from you, pressing gently but firmly to shape the roll. Roll until you reach the border, then wet it slightly with water to seal.

  5. 9

    Slice the Roll

Using a sharp knife, slice the roll into 6 to 8 pieces, wiping the knife with a damp cloth between cuts to ensure clean slices.

  6. 10

    Garnish

Sprinkle roasted seeds over the top of the sushi rolls for added flavor and texture.
