Preparation of Ingredients

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onion

Slice the onion into thin rings. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Tomato

Slice the tomato into thin slices. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Ground Beef

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper to taste. Form into two equal patties.

Cooking the Patty Melt

  1. 4

    Cook the Patties

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

  2. 5

    Grill the Onions

In the same skillet, add the sliced onions to the remaining grease from the patties and sauté until they are caramelized, about 6-8 minutes.

  3. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Spread mustard and mayonnaise on one side of each slice of 9 grain bread. On the unspread side, layer one patty, a slice of cheese, a few tomato slices, and a generous portion of grilled onions. Top with another slice of bread, spread side up.

  4. 7

    Grill the Sandwich

In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese has melted.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve

Remove the sandwich from the skillet, slice in half, and serve immediately.
