Burger Patty

Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Millet

Rinse the millet under cold water. In a saucepan, combine the rinsed millet and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until all water is absorbed and millet is tender. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Vegetable Mixture

Finely chop the onion and garlic. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked millet, chickpea flour, chopped onion, minced garlic, cilantro, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Form the Patties

Shape the mixture into patties, about 1/2 inch thick. You should get around 4-6 patties depending on your size preference.

  4. 4

    Cook the Patties

Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.

Burger Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Buns

Lightly toast the whole wheat buns on a skillet or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Burgers

On the bottom half of each bun, place a lettuce leaf. Add the millet patty, topped with sliced tomatoes, pickles, and sprouts. Drizzle your choice of sauce on top, then cover with the top half of the bun.

  3. 7

    Serve

Serve the millet burgers warm with any extra sauce on the side.
