Filling

Method

Filling Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Apples

Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Place them in a large mixing bowl.

  2. 2

    Mix the Filling

Add granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice to the sliced apples. Toss the mixture gently until the apples are evenly coated.

  3. 3

    Add Butter

Melt the butter and drizzle it over the apple mixture. Stir gently to combine.

Crust Preparation

  1. 4

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. 5

    Add Ice Water

Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough.

  3. 6

    Chill the Dough

Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 7

    Roll Out the Dough

On a floured surface, roll out one disk of dough into a circle to fit a 9-inch pie pan. Place it in the pan and trim any excess.

  2. 8

    Add the Filling

Pour the apple filling into the crust and spread it out evenly.

  3. 9

    Top with Second Crust

Roll out the second disk of dough and place it over the filling. Seal the edges by crimping and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape.

  4. 10

    Bake the Pie

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the pie for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.

  5. 11

    Cool and Serve

Let the pie cool for at least 2 hours before slicing. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
