Method
Preparation
- 1
Wash and Cut Potatoes
Wash the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold water and scrub off any dirt. Cut each potato into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch thick, to form fries.
- 2
Soak Potatoes
Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.
Cooking
- 3
Heat Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can use a thermometer to check the temperature.
- 4
Dry Potatoes
After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.
- 5
Fry Potatoes
Carefully add a handful of dried potato strips into the hot oil. Avoid overcrowding the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
- 6
Season Fries
While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Toss gently to coat.
