Preparation

Preparing the Patties

1. Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

2. Form Patties

Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about ¾ inch thick. Use your thumb to make a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

3. Preheat the Grill or Skillet

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat until it’s hot.

4. Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the patty reaches your preferred doneness.

Preparing the Buns and Toppings

5. Toast the Buns

Optional: Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

6. Slice the Vegetables

Slice the tomato and onion into thin rings. Prepare the lettuce and pickles by washing and drying.

Assembling the Burger

7. Layer the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each bun, layer the lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, onion rings, and pickles.

8. Add Condiments

Finish by adding ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise to taste. Top with the other half of the bun.
