Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Start by washing the Russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler and cut them into even sticks, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak Potatoes

Place the cut potato sticks in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and will make the fries crispier.

Frying

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large heavy pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the oil is at the right temperature for frying.

  2. 4

    Dry the Potatoes

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess water. This is crucial for achieving crispy fries.

  3. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potato sticks to the hot oil in batches, being cautious not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Seasoning

  1. 6

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Toss to ensure they are evenly coated.
