Method

Prepare Syrup Base

  1. 1

    Mix Syrup Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, natural and artificial flavors, caffeine, citric acid, phosphoric acid, and sodium benzoate. Stir well until all ingredients are fully mixed and a smooth syrup forms.

  2. 2

    Heat the Syrup

Place the saucepan over medium heat and allow the mixture to heat until it reaches a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally for about 5 minutes to ensure everything is well combined.

  3. 3

    Cool the Syrup

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the syrup cool completely to room temperature. Once cooled, it can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a month.

Mix the Beverage

  1. 4

    Combine Syrup and Water

In a large pitcher, combine 1 cup of the prepared syrup base with 4 cups of carbonated water. Stir gently to mix, being careful not to lose too much carbonation.

  2. 5

    Add Additional Flavors

Add the vanilla extract, almond extract, and lemon juice to the pitcher. Stir gently to combine all flavors.

  3. 6

    Taste and Adjust

Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or flavor by adding more syrup or water as desired.

Serve

  1. 7

    Pour and Enjoy

Serve the Dr. Pepper over ice in chilled glasses. Enjoy your homemade Dr. Pepper!
