Method
Preparing the Pork
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, combine the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- 2
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or until the meat is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
- 3
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for about 10-15 minutes. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
- 4
Add BBQ Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix in the BBQ sauce. Cover and let it cook on low for another 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 5
Toast the Buns
While the pork is finishing, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the hamburger buns on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
- 6
Build the Sandwich
Once the buns are toasted, place a generous amount of the pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles, then cover with the top half of the bun.
- 7
Serve
Serve the pulled pork sandwiches warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side if desired.
