Sandwich Components

Method

Sandwich Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sandwich Base

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the French bread or baguette into two equal slices and place them on a baking sheet.

  2. 2

    Warm the Prime Rib

Slice the cooked prime rib into thin slices. Place the slices on top of the bread on the baking sheet. Warm in the oven for about 10 minutes, or until heated through.

  3. 3

    Add Horseradish Sauce

Spread 2 tablespoons of creamy horseradish sauce on each slice of bread with the warm prime rib.

Crispy Onions Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare the Onions

While the sandwich is warming, soak the thinly sliced onions in buttermilk for at least 10 minutes.

  2. 5

    Coat the Onions

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and black pepper. Remove the onions from the buttermilk, letting excess drip off, and dredge them in the flour mixture until fully coated.

  3. 6

    Fry the Onions

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated onions in batches, frying until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Combine and Serve

Remove the sandwich from the oven. Top each slice with a generous amount of crispy onions. Serve the open-face sandwiches immediately with warm au jus on the side for dipping.
