Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it's frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until combined.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
- 6
Prepare the Tomato Sauce
In a bowl, mix the crushed tomatoes with salt and black pepper to taste. Set aside.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a round shape to fit your pizza stone or baking sheet.
- 8
Add the Toppings
Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute it over the sauce. Drizzle olive oil on top.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the hot pizza stone). Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 10
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven and sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
