Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough starts to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Flatbread Assembly
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 7
Shape Flatbreads
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat, oval shape on a floured surface.
- 8
Add Sauce and Toppings
Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce over each flatbread. Evenly distribute shredded mozzarella, sliced bell peppers, and black olives on top. Sprinkle with dried oregano.
- 9
Bake Flatbreads
Transfer the flatbreads to the oven (on a baking sheet or pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are crispy and the cheese is bubbly.
- 10
Garnish
Remove from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Allow to cool slightly before slicing.
