Method

Preparing the Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Mix and Shape the Patties

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently to combine, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Grill the Patties

Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the patties on the grill. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side, then flip the patties.

  3. 3

    Add Cheese

After flipping, place a slice of American cheese on each patty. Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the burger is cooked to your desired doneness.

Preparing the Toppings

  1. 4

    Prep the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash the lettuce leaves and pat them dry. Slice the tomato into rounds and thinly slice the onion.

Assembling the Burger

  1. 5

    Toast the Buns

If desired, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

  2. 6

    Build the Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, layer the lettuce leaves, followed by the cooked burger patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and onion slices. Add ketchup and mustard to taste.

  3. 7

    Finish Assembly

Place the top half of the bun on each assembled burger. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
