Method
Cake Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- 3
Cream Butter and Sugars
In a large bowl, beat together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- 4
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, stir in the vanilla extract.
- 5
Combine with Stout
Gradually mix in the chocolate stout beer and sour cream until well combined.
- 6
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
- 7
Bake the Cakes
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 8
Cool the Cakes
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely.
Frosting Preparation
- 9
Prepare the Frosting
In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese and unsalted butter until smooth and creamy.
- 10
Add Sugar and Vanilla
Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until well blended. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- 11
Frost the Cakes
Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- 12
Serve
Slice and serve the chocolate stout cake. Enjoy!
