Chocolate Sauce Preparation

Make the Chocolate Sauce
In a small saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, and water. Whisk together until smooth and well combined.

Cook the Sauce
Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture comes to a gentle simmer. Allow it to simmer for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

Finish the Sauce
Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let the sauce cool slightly before using.

Heat the Milk and Cream
In a large saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling, stirring occasionally.

Add the Chocolate Sauce
Once the milk and cream are heated, whisk in the prepared chocolate sauce until fully incorporated and the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Serve the Hot Chocolate
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and marshmallows as desired.
