Preparation of Coffee Mixture

Brew Coffee
Brew 1 cup of espresso or strong coffee and let it cool to room temperature.

Prepare Coffee Soak
In a shallow dish, combine the cooled coffee with the coffee liqueur, if using.
Making the Cream Mixture

Whisk Egg Yolks
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and granulated sugar until the mixture is pale and creamy.

Add Mascarpone
Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth and fully integrated.

Whip Heavy Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.

Combine Mixtures
Carefully fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until no streaks remain.
Assembly of Tiramisu

Soak Ladyfingers
Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, making sure not to soak them too long, and lay them in a single layer in a dish.

Layer Cream
Spread half of the cream mixture over the soaked ladyfingers.

Repeat Layers
Repeat the process with another layer of soaked ladyfingers and the remaining cream mixture.
Chilling and Serving

Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results.

Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder and sprinkle with dark chocolate shavings if desired.
