Calamari

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Squid

In a bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Coat the Squid

Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, then dredge in the flour mixture until evenly coated. Shake off any excess flour.

  3. 3

    Prepare for Frying

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 375°F (190°C).

  4. 4

    Fry the Calamari

Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  5. 5

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Season with additional salt if desired.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 6

    Cook the Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant.

  2. 7

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

  3. 8

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 9

    Finish the Sauce

Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving. Remove from heat.
