Method
Prepare the Bread
- 1
Slice the Bread
Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette or Italian bread into 1/2 inch thick slices.
- 2
Toast the Bread
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the slices of bread on a baking sheet. Brush both sides lightly with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
Prepare the Topping
- 3
Chop the Tomatoes
Dice the tomatoes into small cubes, removing excess seeds and juice to prevent the topping from becoming too watery.
- 4
Combine Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, add the diced tomatoes, minced garlic, chopped fresh basil leaves, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Toss gently to combine.
- 5
Let it Marinate
Allow the tomato mixture to sit for about 10-15 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
Assemble and Serve
- 6
Top the Bread
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven. Spoon the tomato and basil mixture generously over each slice.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately while the bread is warm, and enjoy your fresh bruschetta!
