Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Once the yeast mixture is ready, add it to the dry ingredients along with olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assembling the Pizza

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) or as high as it will go.

  2. 7

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Layer the sliced tomatoes evenly over the dough, followed by slices of fresh mozzarella.

  4. 9

    Season

Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle olive oil over the top.

  5. 10

    Bake the Pizza

Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  6. 11

    Add Basil

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately top with fresh basil leaves. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before slicing.
