Method

Preparation of Base

  1. 1

    Prepare Orange Peels

Carefully peel three oranges, making sure to avoid the white pith as much as possible. Set the peels aside.

  2. 2

    Infuse Vodka

In a large, clean glass jar, combine the orange peels and vodka. Seal the jar tightly and let it infuse in a cool, dark place for 5 to 7 days. Shake the jar gently every couple of days to ensure even infusion.

  3. 3

    Prepare Simple Syrup

In a saucepan, combine water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Allow the syrup to cool before using.

Final Assembly

  1. 4

    Combine Ingredients

Once the vodka has been infused, strain out the orange peels using a fine strainer or cheesecloth. In a large mixing bowl, combine the strained vodka, simple syrup, orange juice, and cognac. Stir well to combine.

  2. 5

    Add Vanilla

Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into the mixture. Add the empty pod for additional flavor and stir well.

  3. 6

    Bottle and Age

Transfer the mixture into clean bottles using a funnel. Seal the bottles tightly and let them age for at least 1 month in a cool, dark place to develop the flavors.
