Method
Sauce Preparation
- 1
- 2
Add the canned whole tomatoes (crushed by hand), red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine.
- 3
Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
- 4
Stir in the fresh basil leaves, cook for an additional 2 minutes, then remove from heat and set aside.
Pizza Assembly and Baking
- 5
Prepare the Pizza Dough
Preheat your oven to 250°C (482°F) or as high as it will go. If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
- 6
On a floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter.
- 7
Transfer the dough to a pizza peel or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 8
Top the Pizza
Spread a generous layer of the prepared tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- 9
Evenly distribute the sliced fresh mozzarella and spicy salami over the sauce.
- 10
Drizzle a little olive oil over the top and add a few fresh basil leaves.
- 11
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 12
Once baked, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
- 13
Garnish with additional fresh basil leaves if desired, and serve hot.
