Calamari Preparation

Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Make the Battering Mixture
In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.

Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring first into the wet mixture, then into the dry battering mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated.
Frying

Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

Drain the Calamari
Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried calamari from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

Finish the Sauce
Add fresh basil to the sauce and stir well. Remove from heat and set aside.
Serving

Arrange the crispy calamari on a serving platter with a small bowl of marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
