Cocktail Ingredients

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare Hickory Smoked Ice

Fill a tray with water and allow it to freeze. Once frozen, smoke the ice cubes using a hickory wood smoker or by placing them in a container with hickory chips for 1-2 hours to infuse the smoky flavor. Store in the freezer until ready to use.

  2. 2

    Muddle Mint

In a shaker, add the fresh mint leaves. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press the mint to release its oils. Avoid over-muddling, as this can make the drink taste bitter.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the Rittenhouse rye whiskey, black currant liqueur, and fresh lemon juice to the shaker with the muddled mint. Fill the shaker with ice (use regular ice if hickory smoked ice is not available) and shake well for about 15 seconds until chilled.

  4. 4

    Strain and Serve

Strain the mixture into a rocks glass filled with hickory smoked ice. If you prefer, you can double strain to remove any mint bits.

  5. 5

    Garnish

Garnish the cocktail with a sprig of fresh mint for an aromatic finish.
