Preparation
- 1
Prep the Brussels Sprouts
Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any yellow or damaged leaves. Cut the sprouts in half lengthwise.
- 2
Cook the Bacon
In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slices until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon from the skillet and let it drain on a paper towel. Leave the bacon fat in the skillet.
Cooking
- 3
Sauté the Brussels Sprouts
In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the Brussels sprouts cut side down. Cook for about 5 minutes until caramelized. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.
- 4
Add Seasoning
Sprinkle the Brussels sprouts with salt and black pepper, stirring to combine.
- 5
Add Liquids
Pour in the apple cider and bring to a simmer. Cook until the liquid has reduced by half, about 5-7 minutes.
- 6
Incorporate Apple Butter and Sorghum
Stir in the apple butter and sorghum syrup, mixing well until everything is combined and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.
- 7
Add Bacon
Chop the cooked bacon and add it back to the skillet. Stir to combine and heat for another minute.
Serving
- 8
Serve the Dish
Transfer the caramelized Brussels sprouts to a serving dish. Optionally, drizzle with extra apple cider or sorghum syrup before serving.
