Method

Prepare the Topping

  1. 1

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until fully liquid.

  2. 2

    Combine with Brown Sugar

Add the brown sugar to the melted butter and stir until fully combined and bubbly.

  3. 3

    Arrange Pineapple and Cherries

Pour the butter and sugar mixture into the bottom of a 9-inch round cake pan. Arrange pineapple slices on top of the mixture and place a maraschino cherry in the center of each pineapple slice.

Make the Cake Batter

  1. 4

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.

  2. 5

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Combine and Bake

  1. 6

    Pour Batter

Carefully pour the cake batter over the arranged pineapple and cherries in the cake pan.

  2. 7

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  3. 8

    Cool and Flip

Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, carefully invert the cake onto a serving plate, ensuring the pineapple and cherries are on top.
