Method

Burger Patty Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Use your hands to mix the ingredients until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty that is slightly larger than the burger bun. Make an indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Cooking the Patties

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip and place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 4-5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the patties reach your desired doneness.

Burger Assembly

  1. 5

    Toast the Buns

While the patties are cooking, spread butter on the cut sides of the burger buns. Place them butter-side down on the grill or skillet for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Burger

On the bottom half of each toasted bun, layer a lettuce leaf, a cooked patty with melted cheese, a slice of tomato, some red onion slices, and pickles. Add ketchup and mustard to taste, then top with the other half of the bun.
