Method
Preparing the Taco Meat
- 1
Cook the Meat
In a skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef or turkey. Cook until browned, approximately 6-8 minutes, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks.
- 2
Season the Meat
Once the meat is browned, drain any excess fat. Add the taco seasoning to the meat, along with 2/3 cup of water. Stir well and let simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the mixture thickens slightly.
Assembling the Taco Salad
- 3
Layer the Tortilla Chips
On a large serving platter or in individual bowls, spread the tortilla chips evenly across the bottom.
- 4
Add Lettuce
Top the tortilla chips with the shredded lettuce, spreading it evenly over the chips.
- 5
Add Cheese
Sprinkle the mixed cheese over the lettuce, covering it completely.
- 6
Add Taco Meat
Spoon the seasoned taco meat over the cheese layer, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- 7
Add Toppings
Top the taco salad with pico de gallo and tomato salsa. You can layer them or place them in separate sections.
- 8
Serve with Sour Cream
Serve the taco salad with a side of sour cream for drizzling or dipping.
