Method

Preparing the Patties

  1. 1

    Forming the Patties

In a bowl, take the ground beef and gently form it into two equal-sized balls (about 4 oz each). Do not overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Seasoning the Patties

Sprinkle both sides of each meatball with salt and black pepper to taste.

  3. 3

    Searing the Patties

Preheat a cast-iron skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the meatballs in the skillet, leaving space between them.

  4. 4

    Smashing the Patties

Using a spatula or burger press, smash each meatball down into a thin patty (about 1/4 inch thick). Cook for 2-3 minutes until a crust forms.

  5. 5

    Adding Cheese

Flip the patties and add a generous amount of cheddar jack cheese on top. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Assembling the Burgers

  1. 6

    Toasting the Buns

While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns in a separate skillet or on the grill until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Building the Burger

Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add the smashed patty with melted cheese on top.

  3. 8

    Adding Toppings

Top the patty with slices of tomato, pickles, ketchup, and mustard as desired.

  4. 9

    Finishing Touch

Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger. Serve immediately and enjoy!
