Preparing the Patties

Forming the Patties
In a bowl, take the ground beef and gently form it into two equal-sized balls (about 4 oz each). Do not overwork the meat.

Seasoning the Patties
Sprinkle both sides of each meatball with salt and black pepper to taste.

Smashing the Patties
Using a spatula or burger press, smash each meatball down into a thin patty (about 1/4 inch thick). Cook for 2-3 minutes until a crust forms.

Adding Cheese
Flip the patties and add a generous amount of cheddar jack cheese on top. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.
Assembling the Burgers

Building the Burger
Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Add the smashed patty with melted cheese on top.

Place the top half of the bun on the assembled burger. Serve immediately and enjoy!
