Method

Prepare the Meat

  1. 1

    Season the Prime Rib

Rub the USDA Choice Prime Angus Prime Rib with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, ensuring even coverage.

  2. 2

    Cook the Prime Rib

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the seasoned prime rib in a roasting pan and cook for about 20 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 130°F (54°C) for medium-rare. Once cooked, remove from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing thinly.

Prepare the Onion Strings

  1. 3

    Slice the Onion

Peel and slice the large onion into thin rings.

  2. 4

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and cold water. Whisk until smooth.

  3. 5

    Fry the Onion Strings

Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot over medium-high heat. Dip the onion rings in the batter and fry in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Assemble the Dipper

  1. 6

    Spread Horseradish Mayo

Spread horseradish mayo on the inside of each rustic hoagie bun.

  2. 7

    Layer the Ingredients

Layer the thinly sliced prime rib on the bottom half of the hoagie bun, then top with provolone cheese and a generous handful of crispy onion strings.

  3. 8

    Finish and Serve

Place the top half of the hoagie bun on the assembled ingredients, slice in half if desired, and serve immediately.
