Bison Patty

Method

Preparing the Bison Patty

  1. 1

    Mixing the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground bison, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Use your hands to mix the ingredients gently until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

  2. 2

    Forming the Patties

Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help them cook evenly.

  3. 3

    Chilling the Patties

Place the formed patties on a plate and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes. This helps them firm up and maintain their shape while cooking.

  4. 4

    Cooking the Patties

Heat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the bison patties. Cook for 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until they reach your desired doneness.

  5. 5

    Resting the Patties

Remove the patties from the skillet or grill and let them rest for 5 minutes before serving. This allows the juices to redistribute within the patty for maximum flavor.
