Ingredients for Large French Fries

Method

Directions for Making Large French Fries

  1. 1

    Preparing the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into large strips, about 1/2 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soaking the Potatoes

Place the cut fries in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes for crispier fries.

  3. 3

    Drying the Fries

Drain the soaked fries and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Heating the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure there is enough oil to completely submerge the fries.

  5. 5

    Frying the Fries

Working in batches, carefully add the dried fries to the hot oil. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Do not overcrowd the pot.

  6. 6

    Draining and Seasoning

Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Immediately season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.

  7. 7

    Serving

Serve the large French fries hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
