Patty Melt Ingredients
Method
Cooking Instructions
- 1
Prepare the Onion
Slice the onion into thin rings or half-moons.
- 2
Cook the Onion
In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they are soft and caramelized. Remove from skillet and set aside.
- 3
Form the Patty
In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form it into a patty (about 1/2 inch thick).
- 4
Cook the Patty
In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of butter and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook the patty for about 3-4 minutes on each side until it reaches your desired doneness.
- 5
Assemble the Patty Melt
Place a slice of Swiss cheese on top of the patty during the last minute of cooking. Meanwhile, butter one side of each slice of marble rye bread.
- 6
Grill the Sandwich
In a clean skillet, place one slice of bread butter-side down. Add the patty with melted cheese and top with the caramelized onions. Place the second slice of bread on top, butter-side up. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- 7
Serve
Cut the patty melt in half and serve with chips and a kosher dill pickle.
