Method

For the Gyro Meat

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meat Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground lamb and ground beef. Add finely chopped onion, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Shape the Meat

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Form the meat mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a baking dish. Brush the top with olive oil.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meat

Bake the meat in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until fully cooked. Remove from oven and let it rest before slicing.

For the Gyro Sauce

  1. 4

    Make the Sauce

In a medium bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, dried dill, and lemon juice. Mix well and season with salt to taste. Refrigerate until ready to use.

For the Assembly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Pita

Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds until soft.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Gyro

Slice the cooked gyro meat thinly. Place a portion of meat on each pita. Top with sliced tomatoes, red onion, and a generous drizzle of gyro sauce.

  3. 7

    Serve

Wrap the pita around the filling and serve immediately, with extra sauce on the side if desired.
