Toppings
Method
Cooking the Bolognese Sauce
- 1
Sauté the vegetables
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion, diced carrot, and diced celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- 2
Add garlic and beef
Stir in minced garlic and ground beef. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon.
- 3
Add tomatoes and seasonings
Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, salt, black pepper, and dried oregano. Stir well to combine.
- 4
Simmer
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce gets too thick, add a little water.
- 5
Add fresh basil
Stir in chopped fresh basil just before serving.
Cooking the Pasta
- 6
Cook the casarecce
In a large pot, boil salted water. Add casarecce pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Assembling the Dish
- 7
Combine pasta and sauce
Toss the cooked casarecce with the bolognese sauce until well coated.
- 8
Serve
Plate the pasta and top with grated Parmesan cheese, breadcrumbs, and fresh basil leaves for garnish.
