Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Cook the Pasta

In a large pot of salted boiling water, add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Make the Roux

In a large saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly and slightly golden.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the whole milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the shredded white cheddar cheese and smoked gouda until melted. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder, mixing well.

Combine and Bake

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Cheese Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until well coated.

  2. 6

    Prepare for Baking

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish.

  3. 7

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle the chopped bacon, panko bread crumbs, and chopped green onions evenly over the top of the mac and cheese.

  4. 8

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.
