Method
Pulled Pork Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Pork
Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks.
- 2
Mix the Rub
In a bowl, mix paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, cumin, and garlic cloves (minced). Rub the mixture all over the pork pieces.
- 3
Sear the Pork
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork pieces and sear on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 4
Slow Cook the Pork
Transfer the seared pork to a slow cooker. Add sliced onion, BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, and water. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily pulled apart.
- 5
Shred the Pork
Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks. Mix in additional BBQ sauce to taste.
Coleslaw Preparation
- 6
Prepare the Vegetables
Thinly slice the cabbage and grate the carrot.
- 7
Mix the Dressing
In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 8
Combine the Slaw
In a large bowl, combine the sliced cabbage, grated carrot, and dressing. Toss until everything is evenly coated.
- 9
Chill
Refrigerate the coleslaw for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
Sandwich Assembly
- 10
Assemble the Sandwich
Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Pile a generous amount of pulled pork onto the bottom half of each bun. Top with coleslaw and place the top half of the bun on.
- 11

Serve immediately and enjoy your pulled pork sandwich!
