Cooking Instructions
- 1
Caramelize the Onions
Slice the yellow onion thinly. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the onions, salt, and cook, stirring occasionally until they are soft and golden brown, about 20-25 minutes.
- 2
Prepare the Beef Patty
In a bowl, combine the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and form into two equal patties. Season both sides with salt.
- 3
Cook the Beef Patties
In the same skillet used for the onions, add the remaining tablespoon of butter and increase heat to medium-high. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until cooked to your desired doneness.
- 4
Assemble the Patty Melt
Once the patties are cooked, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and let it melt slightly. On a slice of sourdough bread, layer the caramelized onions and then the beef patty with cheese. Top with another slice of bread.
