Ingredients for Beer Battered Cod

Method

Directions for Beer Battered Cod

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into your desired shape (fries, wedges, etc.). Rinse them under cold water and pat dry. You can choose to deep fry, bake, or air fry them according to your preference.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and has no lumps. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or a deep fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into it; it should sizzle and float to the top.

  4. 4

    Batter the Cod

Pat the cod fillets dry with a paper towel. Dip each fillet into the beer batter, making sure it’s fully coated.

  5. 5

    Fry the Cod

Carefully place the battered cod fillets into the hot oil. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the beer battered cod hot with your choice of cooked potatoes and a side of tartar sauce for dipping.
