Method
Meatballs Preparation
Make the Meatballs
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined. Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs and set aside.
Sauce Preparation
Prepare the Sauce
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
Cook the Meatballs
Carefully add the meatballs to the simmering sauce. Cover and let them cook for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
Sandwich Assembly
Assemble the Sandwich
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice hoagie buns open and place them on a baking sheet. Add 2-3 meatballs and a generous amount of sauce to each bun. Top each sandwich with 2 slices of provolone cheese. Bake in the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the buns are lightly toasted.
