Method

Cooking the Rice

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse 2 cups of short grain rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a rice cooker or pot, combine the rinsed rice and 2.5 cups of water. Cook according to the rice cooker instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and water is absorbed. Fluff with a fork and set aside.

Preparing the Vegetables

  1. 3

    Slice the Vegetables

Julienne the carrot and zucchini into thin strips. Thinly slice the radish and mushrooms.

  2. 4

    Sauté the Spinach

In a pan, add a little oil and sauté the spinach over medium heat until wilted. Season with salt to taste and set aside.

  3. 5

    Sauté the Remaining Vegetables

In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed, and sauté the carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, and radish separately until tender. Set each aside.

  4. 6

    Prepare Bean Sprouts

Briefly blanch the bean sprouts in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then drain and set aside.

Cooking the Protein

  1. 7

    Marinate the Beef or Chicken

In a bowl, combine the sliced beef or chicken with soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and sugar. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 8

    Cook the Protein

In a skillet over medium-high heat, cook the marinated beef or chicken until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Frying the Eggs

  1. 9

    Cook the Eggs

In a small non-stick pan, heat a little oil over medium heat. Crack the eggs into the pan and cook until the whites are set but the yolks are still runny, about 3-4 minutes.

Making the Spicy Pepper Sauce

  1. 10

    Prepare the Sauce

In a small bowl, mix together gochujang, sesame oil, honey, and water until smooth. Adjust the spiciness to taste.

Assembling the Stone Bowl

  1. 11

    Layer the Ingredients

In each stone bowl or a regular bowl, add a serving of rice at the bottom. Arrange the cooked vegetables, protein, and a sunny-side-up egg on top.

  2. 12

    Serve with Sauce

Drizzle the spicy pepper sauce over the top and serve immediately while hot, allowing diners to mix everything together before eating.
