Beef Marinade

Method

Marinade Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, mirin, brown sugar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is well combined.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Steak

Place the flank steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it's fully submerged. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or ideally overnight for maximum flavor.

Steak Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

Preheat a grill or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Add vegetable oil to the skillet if using.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Remove the steak from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off. Season both sides with salt and black pepper. Place the steak on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or until desired doneness is reached.

  3. 5

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked, remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for about 5 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 6

    Slice and Garnish

Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips. Sprinkle sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds on top for garnish.

  2. 7

    Serve

Arrange the sliced steak on a serving platter and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade Hibachi or Teriyaki Steak!
