Preparation Steps
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water, mixing with your hands or a spoon until the dough starts to come together.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
- 3
Divide the Dough
After resting, divide the dough into equal portions (about the size of a golf ball). Roll each portion into a ball.
- 4
Roll the Roti
Dust a rolling surface with flour and take one dough ball. Flatten it slightly and roll it out into a round shape about 6-8 inches in diameter, keeping it evenly thick.
- 5
Cook the Roti
Heat a tawa or non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the rolled roti on the skillet. Cook until you see bubbles forming, then flip and cook the other side until brown spots appear. Optionally, press gently with a spatula for even cooking.
- 6
Serve
Remove from the skillet and keep warm in a container. Repeat with the remaining dough balls. Serve plain or with your choice of curry.
