Rice

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This helps remove excess starch.

  2. 2

    Soak the Rice

Soak the rinsed rice in water for about 30 minutes, then drain.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat Oil and Sauté Onions

In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are golden brown.

  2. 4

    Add Garlic and Ginger

Stir in the minced garlic and ginger, and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 5

    Add Spices

Add cumin seeds, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Stir well and cook for about 30 seconds.

  4. 6

    Add Vegetables

Add the diced carrots, potatoes, bell pepper, green beans, and green peas. Stir to combine and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.

  5. 7

    Add Rice and Water

Add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the pot, followed by 4 cups of water. Stir gently to mix everything.

  6. 8

    Cook the Biryani

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid and let it simmer for about 20 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed.

  7. 9

    Fluff and Serve

Once cooked, remove from heat and let it sit covered for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the biryani with a fork, sprinkle with garam masala, fresh cilantro, and drizzle lemon juice before serving.
