Prepare the Rice
Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes, then drain.

Marinate the Lamb
In a bowl, mix the cubed lamb with yogurt, garlic, ginger, turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cover and marinate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.

Cook Lamb
Add the marinated lamb to the pot and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the chopped tomato, cumin seeds, and garam masala. Cook for another 5 minutes.

Add Water
Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 30-40 minutes until the lamb is tender.

Cook Rice
In a separate pot, bring water to a boil. Add the soaked and drained basmati rice and cook until it's about 70% done. Drain the rice.

Final Cooking
Cook on a low heat for an additional 20-25 minutes until the rice is fully cooked and has absorbed the flavors. Do not open the lid during this time.

Fluff the biryani gently with a fork before serving. Serve hot with raita or a salad on the side.
