Method

Ice Cream Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar is fully dissolved.

  2. 2

    Prepare Egg Yolk Mixture

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks until they are light and frothy.

  3. 3

    Heat Mixture

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the cream mixture and heat until it begins to steam, but do not let it boil.

  4. 4

    Temper the Egg Yolks

Slowly pour a small amount of the hot cream mixture into the bowl with the egg yolks while whisking constantly. This will temper the yolks and prevent them from scrambling.

  5. 5

    Combine and Cook

Pour the tempered egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining cream mixture and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).

  6. 6

    Cool and Chill

Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. Once cooled, transfer to the refrigerator and chill for at least 4 hours, or overnight.

  7. 7

    Churn the Ice Cream

Once the mixture is chilled, pour it into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

  8. 8

    Freeze

Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.

Chocolate Syrup Preparation

  1. 9

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a saucepan, mix together the granulated sugar and cocoa powder.

  2. 10

    Add Water and Heat

Stir in the water, and bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

  3. 11

    Simmer

Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the syrup thickens.

  4. 12

    Add Vanilla

Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let it cool before serving.
