Prepare the Patties

Mix the Beef
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently using your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Shape the Patties
Divide the mixture into four equal portions (about 4 oz each) and shape them into patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each patty.

Cook the Second Side
Flip the patties and place two slices of American cheese on each patty. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patties are cooked to your desired doneness.
Assemble the Burger

Prepare the Tomato
While the patties are cooking, slice the tomato into thin slices.

Toast the Buns
Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

Add Sauce and Lettuce
Spread a generous amount of ShackSauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf on top of the sauce.

Layer the Patties
Place one cheeseburger patty on top of the lettuce, followed by another lettuce leaf. Then, add the second cheeseburger patty on top.

Add the sliced tomatoes on top of the second patty, and then cover with the top half of the burger bun.
