Pork Preparation
- 1
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- 2
Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Pour apple cider vinegar and water over the pork. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
BBQ Sauce Preparation
- 3
Make the BBQ Sauce
In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly.
Sandwich Assembly
- 4
Shred the Pork
Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
- 5
Combine Pork with BBQ Sauce
In a large bowl, mix the shredded pork with the prepared BBQ sauce until fully coated.
- 6
Assemble the Sandwiches
Toast the hamburger buns if desired. Place a generous portion of BBQ pulled pork on the bottom half of each bun. Top the pork with coleslaw, then place the top half of the bun over the slaw. Serve immediately.
