1

Chill glass

Place a chilled cocktail or martini glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to cool it.

2

Combine spirits

Fill a mixing glass or cocktail shaker with the indicated ice. Add 2 oz Tanqueray London Dry Gin and 0.5 oz dry vermouth.

3

Stir or shake

For a classic, clear Tanqueray cocktail, stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. If you prefer a slightly cloudier, colder drink, shake vigorously for 8–10 seconds.

4

Prepare garnish

If using a lemon twist: cut a thin strip of lemon peel (avoid too much pith) and express the oils over the glass by holding it over the rim and giving it a quick twist, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass. If using an olive or orange peel, place the olive on a pick or express orange oils similarly.

5

Strain & serve

Discard ice/water from the chilled glass. Double-strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the chilled cocktail glass (use a Hawthorne or fine strainer if available). Garnish with the prepared lemon twist, olive, or orange peel and serve immediately.
