Method
Preparing the Protein
- 1
Ground Beef/Chicken
In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 pound of ground beef or chicken. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 7-10 minutes.
- 2
Black Beans
If using black beans, drain and rinse the can of beans. Set aside.
Seasoning the Protein
- 3
Add the taco seasoning (chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper) to the cooked protein, along with 1/4 cup of water. Stir to combine and simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
Preparing the Taco Shells
- 4
Warm the soft taco tortillas in a microwave for 10-15 seconds or in a dry skillet over low heat until pliable.
Assembling the Tacos
- 5
Place a tortilla on a plate. Add a generous spoonful of the seasoned protein or black beans in the center of the tortilla.
- 6
Top with shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, and fresh cilantro if desired.
- 7
Fold the tortilla in half to enclose the filling and enjoy!
